You are required to do credit counseling within six months of filing bankruptcy. The residency requirements are also quite complicated and it will pay you to do your own research. Have a look at this website where this is explained. I hope this helps.
Good luck!
References :
http://www.bankruptcystressrelief.com/bankruptcy-law.html

Under the new bankruptcy laws, yes, you have to go to credit counseling. You need to go to the Department of Justice website and find an approved credit counselor. The DOJ has a list of them.
By the way, all financial transactions you have had over the last couple years are subject to scrutiny by the trustee so if you sold property in your former state, I wouldn't spend the money just yet. You're going to need it to pay off bills. The court will NOT let you sell property and pocket the money. You will also have a "means test" to figure out if you qualify for bankruptcy and if you do, whether you qualify for Chapter 7 or Chapter 13.
References :
Im moving to NJ and plan to file personal bankruptcy.?
What are the steps I need to take before I file. Paying back the credit card debt is not an option. I know I have to wait 180 days or so to be a resident. Do I need to go to credit counciling before I file?
i never mentioned property, I rent I have to move up north because of family emergency.
