I am active duty millitary, and I had a car repossession and was granted chapter 13 bankruptcy about a year ago. I was looking at going into a job where I would need a Secret or Top Secret Clearance. Other then my financial history I have a spotless record, would I be eligible for such a clearance?
In granting you a clearance, it isn't so much WHAT you've done, as making sure you TELL them about it, so you cannot be blackmailed with it later on, blackmailed into betraying your country.
They're looking for areas of instability, such as a shaky marriage, drinking problems, ongoing financial troubles (which would tempt you to sell secrets to get out of debt), etc.
