I think that it was your husbands attempt to get you what ever way he could legally.
I would see if there is anyway you can go back to your divorce lawyer and have your financial settlement investinged pointing out the bankruptcy has caused your financial settlement to be altered.
Its a ploy used by some ex partners, so they may be sympathetic and have a look at his pension.
References :
I agree with the 1st answer - you ex sounds like the biggest w*nker going!!. What kind of man would do something like this out of spite, not a real man that's for sure.
Good luck to you sweetie xx
References :
Never mind the bankrupcy, it sounds like your ex is a despicable piece of garbage who should held responsible for this mess.
References :
Guess why the government is promoting bankruptcy? Because the Secretary of State gets £7,500 + VAT in costs!
My ex-husband deliberately went bankrupt last summer, out of spite, because it was agreed at mediation that I would keep our home, (and he would keep all of his pension) because I have sole responsibility of our 4 children, as after 17 years he decided he didn't want to be a father anymore. He went bankrupt for just over £30,000, but on top of that is £20,000 in COSTS. £10,000 to the government, £7,500 to the Trustee who is dealing with his bankruptcy and the rest in other costs.
I've now got the option of trying to remortgage to pay it off or be taken to court for a forced sale of my home. Either way, he will be debt free in the summer and my four children will either be homeless or I will have a massive mortgage around my neck. The stupid thing is, the trustee froze our joint account, which is overdrawn and which I am having to pay off, but has left his sole account alone for him to still spend like there's no tomorrow! Nobody seems to be aware of the hidden costs of bankruptcy.
