Helping you make smart bankruptcy decisions

Does a bankruptcy wipe out a student loan?

I conso;idated my student loans after I graduated form school. Last year I filed for chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, thinking that the student loans were not covered in that. But on my statement I got from the court showing the creditors, the loan was listed. I thought that student loans were not able to be wiped out with a bankruptcy, but does it change since the loan was consolidated through another lender?

It’s not supposed to take care of a student loan. Either it is an oversight on their part, since it went through a different lender, or a great streak of luck for you. Either way, I wouldn’t wake that sleeping dog by asking questions.
