Helping you make smart bankruptcy decisions

does anybody know the differences between the old and new bankruptcy laws?

Ideally what was the law before, and what does it now state. Or any additions to it. Thanks for your help!

This is how I understand it (mind you, I am not an attorney and this is not legal advice, just my humble opinions):

Chapter 7 used to be:

You walk in with your list of debts, the court wipes them out (for the most part).

Now, Chapter 7 says:

You must first meet with a counselor to determine if filing bankruptcy is the proper thing for you. If you are really really bad off, they will still let you file Chapter 7. But it's much harder to qualify for that now. Many people are required to file Chapter 13 now which makes you repay your debts over a period of time.
