Applied for a job. I had several interviews and was eventually told welcome aboard and I could start as soon as my background check was completed. I’ve since been told because of the check they are rescinding the offer. I’ve never even had a traffic ticket. My work references are impeccable. And I have no current debt. However, I did go bankrupt 18 months ago. Can I be refused employment because of a bankruptcy?
It depends on the job and what state you are in.
For example: in California, you are only allowed to use a credit check for employment decisions if the job specifically deals with money/financials. Depending on how strictly a company interprets this, this can be a LOT of jobs.
