I will be filing chapter 7 bankruptcy soon, and am trying to figure out if the $28,000 I owe my University will be discharged. None of the balance is from student loans, or any other type of Financial Aid. It is from past tuition, bookstore charges, room & board, as well some other irresponsible charges to my Bursar bill. Thank you in advance.
To answer the answers below, I am actually in the process of choosing my bankruptcy attorney, but the last one I spoke with wanted to charge me $250 to look up that information, and would not include it in his normal bankruptcy rate.
As for the answer regarding student loans, NONE of the University debt includes any type of loan or other type of financial aid. Thank you for such quick responses though!
I believe that ‘federal’ student loans are not. If your student loans were private they may well be.
My wife and I would like to purchase a new home after filing chapter 13. Will we be able to? How long should we wait? We are currently renting. what requirements will we need to satisfy?
Most definitely nothing for 7 years.
It’s according to why you filed bankruptcy. Sometimes those SBL’s will give U a 2nd chance, SOMETIMES.
"Washington Mutual Inc. filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy protection late Friday in U.S. Bankruptcy Court in Wilmington, listing almost $33 billion in assets and $8.1 billion owed to creditors."
Q: Who gets the 24.9 Billion in Assets? Any chance common shareholders can see some money from this?
zero if the bush bunch do not get their bail out money tomorrow
see they own mega stocks in wamu!
I’m pretty sure the place I work for has done this and I want to know what this means for the company (besides the increase in phone calls from unpaid vendors)
A chapter 11 filing is usually an attempt to stay in business while a bankruptcy court supervises the "reorganization" of the company’s contractual and debt obligations. In most instances the debtor remains in control of its business operations as a "debtor in possession", and is subject to the oversight and jurisdiction of the court…
the court is basically in control and decides how long to keep trying to make a come back or just pack it all up and close the doors.
Yes. And changes in the lending laws are to blame also.
I left my laptop at pcclub for virus removal. When I went there the next day to pick it up, the sign said they went under chapter 7 bankruptcy. What happens to customer items when this happens. Does anyone know how I can retrieve my laptop back??? Help!
The item belongs to you, not to the company. It is not their asset so their creditors can not take it. You need to act fast and contact the attorney of record for the bankruptcy filing. There may be legal papers posted on the door with this contact information. If not, contact your local sheriff and ask for advice. I don’t know how long it will be before they begin to clean out the store. Keep the claim ticket they gave you when you dropped off the computer. This is your proof than your computer is there.
Here is my current situation, I have the trustee meeting coming up very soon and I need to talk to a financial expert to go over my finances and to finally decide on what to do.
Currently I have filed chapter 13 but the more I think of it I feel like chapter 7 would be the best option but I need help!
any recommendations?? thoughts?
The trustee is now your financial adviser and will control pretty much how and where your money goes. Any bankruptcy will stay on your credit report for 7 years. So it will be like 3 to 4 before you can get and credit cards again.
H all one of my friend wants to apply for personal bankruptcy! she has about £25 000 debt to the banks, she is just worried and wants to know if after bankruptcy, they will put her picture on local newspaper and tell her story or not! thought that's embarrassing! anyone know the answer! by the way she has been in many different information sources but there wasn't anything about this one, so that's why we decided to post it here! thank you all
I don't know if they put your pics in a paper over there, But in our county they put the names and dates and addresses, b/c it is public records. But Its only a 1 time thing, so if she's lucky people won't read that section for the day. However it will effect her credit. As far as her applying for a home loan, credit car, new phone. anything they run her credit for it will come up that she declared bankruptcy. Good luck to her.
need to reported on my bankruptcy paperwork? The CD was for about $15000.00.
Thank you.
The money was used when I bought my house. If I had the money, I would of disclosed it. I am asking a simple question about a "CD" that is closed.
no the cd is gone since you have all ready spend it!!!
